Washington Irving wrote a fantastic story called Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
It has always been one of my favorites, so much so that when my husband and
I traveled to New York and stayed in Tarry Town, we had to go see Sleepy Hollow, tour around the town and then of course, go visit the home of Irving. It was a wonderful experience, I was truly inspired by it.
I intend to illustrate the story, so one day I will have it for my grandkids.
Here is a picture from my nature journal about Sleepy Hollow and some other illustrations by Arthur Rackham (an amazing artist) of Rip Van Winkle and Sleepy Hollow. He illustrated many stories in his life, they were all wonderful. Before you go, stop and imagine what it must've been like to be in Sleepy Hollow listening to people talking about a headless horseman, I think Irving was about 12 when he first heard the story. It would make walking around at night a wee bit creepy and exciting.
