It's All Fun and Games Blogfest

It’s All Fun & Games Blogfest, June 6, 2011 - list your three most favorite games and why. Board games, card games, RPG, video games, physical games, drinking games - even mind games! If it’s a game you enjoy playing, it’s worth sharing.

It's a little late into this day, but I am going to play anyway, since I love, love, love games!  They have been a very fun and memorable part of our family.  From the tradition of playing Scrabble and Life on the Farm at grandma's, to the chocolate milk tidal wave that destroyed our Life.  So, here are a few of my favorites! Thank you, Alex

The Game is Afoot!!

Cribbage is my all time favorite game.  It's a great conversational game.  My son and I love to play it in the mornings with coffee and toast.  It always inspires interesting conversations.  It's a lot of fun to play with couples too.

Hugger Mugger has been a family favorite for many years.  We love the variety it has.  Spelling, Vocabulary, Quotes, Sayings, Rhyming, Scrambled Words.  If you are a wordsmith, you will definitely enjoy this game.

221 B. Baker St.  My mother-in-law bought this game for us when she was visiting London, many years ago. 221 B. Baker St. is Sherlock Holmes address, so this is a clue like game, for adults.  We've had a wonderful time solving mysteries over the years.  I think we have enough extension packs to last us a lifetime.  I guess we aren't solving mysteries often enough. I should probably go.....The game is afoot, after all!

  1. I've played Cribbage before, but the other two are new to me.
Thanks for participating in the blogfest!

  2. Cribbage. YES YES YES!!! Fun game. Fifteen-two, fifteen-four.

Hey, the tree pictures are cool! Like the effect.

And anyone who puts "Kubla Khan" on a post is a friend of mine.
    Pleased to meet you.

  3. These sound good, I have heard of Cribbage, but not the other two. I love Clue type games~ Thanks for sharing!

  4. Oh my gosh! What a great blogfest idea! I have heard of cribbage but have never played it, or even have a clue how to. The other two games sound like lots of fun. I love games and cannot remember the last time I sat down to play one. Great post Heather.

  5. Glad you joined in! I have never played any of these games - the more posts I read, the more I discover new games I wanna play! if only I could quit my day job....(Nah, not really. I like my job.)

  6. Never played a one-- maybe Cribbage, but I'm not sure. Definitely not the other two.

    Tossing It Out

  7. hugger mugger, with a name like that it MAKES me wanna play

  8. Wow, I didn't even know anyone else had ever heard of Huggermugger. Then again, I think we played it three times, tops, and now it's simply collecting dust in my old room at my parents' house. Ah, but I do enjoy a good game of cribbage. (Actually, I enjoy many good games of cribbage. If only I played more often.)

  9. Haven't heard of these before. I love Clue like games though so the last one sounds like it might be a good match for me.

  10. Alex- Thank you for hosting the blogfest, it's really fun to see what people like to play and hear about new and interesting games, as well as those I haven't played in years.

Bryce, it's nice to meet you as well. Cribbage is definitely an awesome game. I have fond memories of my dad teaching me to play while we sat in the kitchen with our toast and coffee. Of course, I have never beat him at it, but I still enjoy playing it with him.

Ella, you should definitely check out 221 B. Baker St. if you like Clue, you'll love it. The stories are really interesting and I like that you get to go find clues in places like The Apothecary, or Boar's Head Pub and work with Scotland Yard. It's a great game. We actually used one of the cases to create a Murder Mystery Dinner that involved 30 participants, it was a blast!

Rasz, it sounds like you need to create a bit of time for games. Maybe a once a month game night with friends. That is always a really fun time. Make it a potluck, try new games and foods each month. If I lived nearby, I would be happy to teach you Cribbage, it's a fun and relaxing game.

Hey Lisa, maybe you could play games on your lunch break with your fellow workers! There's always golf, all you need is a deck of cards. :)

Lee, I keep hearing that. I didn't realize how rare these games were, I don't even recall where we got Huggermugger. If you ever come across it though, I think you'd enjoy it since you like words.

Baygirl, you should find it and give it a whirl, it's a fun and challenging game.

Haha Nate, I think I've only met a couple of other people who've played it before, it is a cool and groovy game. I have a feeling you will playing more games like Candyland and Chutes and Ladders for the next few years or so. Those are fun games too!

Nicole, you should definitely check it out, it's a lot of fun and a little bit more challenging than clue, with the same basic concept. I am pretty sure you can find it online.

  11. cool games! my gparents taught me to play years ago =)
    happy belated gameblogfest!
