Yellow

This week's Summer of Color is Yellow! I was excited to try a collage, something I've never done before.  I used bottle caps for the flower's centers, music sheets for her wings, and printed paper for the dress. I'm not really happy with the way it turned out; I didn't spend nearly as much time on it as I should have. But, because the week is already getting so late, I felt like I just needed to get it posted! I may go back and redo parts of it and add more to it.

I had planned to use bottle caps already and then saw that we were supposed to add something metallic, as a bonus.  So it worked out really well.
(piano keys falling from her fingers)
This piece actually has meaning to it.  It's reminiscent of my daughter Zara, when she was young.  Very free spirited, always wanting to fly, she was and is a musician and she learned to play piano on our very old piano, the music on her wings is from Lord of The Rings (Many Meetings) which she used to play, she loves sunflowers and has a very sunny disposition and she is standing in a field of dandelions (which she calls wish weeds), surrounded by happy fireflies.  She is the epitome of yellow and  sunshine and spreading warmth and love everywhere she goes.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a groovy, colorful week!

  1. I think your angel yellow girl is really pretty, and the use of bottle caps for the flowers was ingenius. Art is more about how it makes you feel and how the finished product affects others. Isn't it? You're the artist.

  2. Thanks Laila, that is true. But this piece doesn't make me feel happy, because I had a vision of it in my head, but because I rushed through it, I didn't take the time to make it look the way I'd hoped. No worries though, I can go back and change what I don't like and maybe add a bit more to it. I think a larger surface would've helped too. This space made me feel a bit limited. I used a warped piece of wood that I had.

  8. Maybe just keep that one and create a larger as well? (instead of re-doing) I like metallic elements too! I made a sort of mosaic pic out of some broken CD shards a while ago, but I was unhappy with it and threw it away. Now I wish I had it. :(((

  16. A beautiful, beautiful angel girlie! I love everything about her. And I agree that the piano keys are awesome :). The time constraints with these challenges is always a problem for me. I find that I am compromising my work just to get it done on time. Not really the best creative environment for me but so fun to play and participate.
